Composition Tools for Generative Media
This is the second phase of a project that aims to invite cutting-edge creators to participate in a joint effort to develop software and hardware. We worked with U.S.-based artist/programmer James George to develop and showcase this software.
As a programmer, George was one of the main developers of the creative coding software framework “openFrameworks” and is also known for his work as a developer of “RGB+Depth”, a video recording format that allows the capture of depth data in addition to the colors of a recorded subject. That said, he is also a very active artist, and has exhibited a great deal of video material utilizing software he has developed.
In this project, we have developed and released the open-source “ofxTimeline” add-on for openFrameworks that allows the use of a variety of video and audio formats, including “RGB+Depth”, and “Duration”, a software for configuring sensor-linked event triggers on a timeline.
Recent and Upcoming
From July to October of 2012, James George was in residence at the YCAM developing a series of software and also giving workshops that served as software demonstrations. The software was then released under an open source license.
