Kanjincho

Kinoshita-Kabuki, a theater company that has been exploring and promoting the potentials of kabuki in the present day, presents The Donation List, a piece that has been synonymous with kabuki in Japan.

Leader Yuichi Kinoshita teamed up with stage director Kunio Sugihara, whose spectacular arrangements have been much in demand for everything from small independent productions to large commercial theater, to work out a rendition that was first staged in 2010. Reinterpretating the original story about loyalty between the warrior Yoshitsune and his followers, in a contemporary social context with various “boundaries” that surround us, Kinoshita and Sugihara reassembled the piece into a multi-layered drama in which all kinds of social boundaries in are intersecting. Look forward to another manifestation of this much talked-about and frequently restaged material.
